OurCasanova Range

Casanova was one of the fiefs that our ancestor, Giovanni Cornacchia, acquired by royal assent in 1488. This fief was situated in the Torri area of Torano Nuovo, where the family property of the Barone Cornacchia company stands to this day.

ourClassic Line

The Casanova range is our classic selection. This is the range that has helped make our Montepulciano internationally recognised (United States, Canada, Japan and Europe), with its distinctive yellow label and unmistakable character. “Italy in a glass”, as one of our American customers described it!

Our Trebbiano has also always had a place in this range, produced from the same hillside vineyard for five generations. This wine is a clear expression of the excellence achieved by our most traditional regional white given the right conditions.
Back in 1932 and 1933, our great grandfather Filippo Vizzarro Cornacchia received prizes for our Montepulciano and Trebbiano d’Abruzzo at the Fiera del Levante event.

Our Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo Superiore completes the classic wines of the Casanova range. This is a rosé created from our Montepulciano grapes. A traditional wine, it offers an intense, vibrant colour and cherry notes. It makes a pleasant and lively pairing for many types of cuisine and is ideal with spicy foods, fried dishes and pizza.
Alongside our oenologist, we have carefully refined and improved this wine using grapes from one of our finest vineyards, Il Colle.

Since 2006, we have enriched the Casanova range with a wine using 100% Passerina grapes. Previously, this native variety was blended at 15% with our Trebbiano. The result is a fresh and easy-drinking wine. It is classified as a Passerina Biologica Vegana DOC Controguerra, one of very few in Abruzzo.

In the early 2000s we planted the Pecorino grape, another native variety, that we have used in production since 2006. It met with immediate success in Italy and abroad, thanks to its structure, complexity and minerality.

OurReserves

01Vigna le Coste

This is the Riserva di Montepulciano that best embodies the style and personality of our grape, finding its perfect expression in this wine. It originates from a single vineyard named Le Coste, referring to its sloping location.

02Vizzarro

Our DOCG Colline Teramane wine is dedicated to our great grandfather, Baron Filippo Vizzarro Cornacchia. The family’s passion for viticulture began with him. This DOCG wine was first created at the end of the ‘90s and represented the culmination of the hard work and commitment of a group of producers that promoted this area of Abruzzo, succeeding in achieving recognition.
The name Vizzarro or Bizzarro (B and V are often used interchangeably in historical texts) is a name that ran through the family from 1488 in the generations of Alessandro Vizzarro Cornacchia, son of Giovanni, owner of the family fiefs Poggio Varano, Casanova, Ripa di Santa Maria a Bolignano, Quatrelle and Santa Croce, and up to 1870 with Filippo Vizzarro Cornacchia.

03Colle Cupo

This wine was first created with DOC Controguerra classification in 1996. This classification exists in just a handful of municipalities in the province of Teramo, in northern Abruzzo (Controguerra, Torano Nuovo, Ancarano, Corropoli and Colonnella). The regulations for this classification permit international varieties and we chose to plant Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The Cabernet clone was purchased from France and has proved outstanding, not excessively herbaceous, mellow and particularly pleasant blended with our Montepulciano and a small portion of Merlot. The name Colle Cupo comes from property purchased near to our company, at Campodino named “Il Cupo”. It lies on a hill with excellent exposure that was already home to a vineyard which we replanted with Montepulciano. This gave rise to the name Colle Cupo (colle meaning “hill” in Italian).
